New baby payments

Eligible parents will be able to apply for Scotland’s new Pregnancy and Baby payment from tomorrow.

Parents or carers of a baby can apply for the cash payment which replaces the Sure Start Maternity Grant in Scotland.

The payment for the first child is £600, and the payment for subsequent children is £300.

The Scottish Government hopes that the grant will make it easier for parents to buy anything they need, from prams and nappies to baby food.
