No dream Aintree return

- By reg Moore SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

One For Arthur’s return to the track, after 19 months off, lasted only until the third fence in Aintree’s Many Cloud Chase yesterday.

The 2017 Grand National hero has been off since and trainer Lucinda Russell, would have wanted a completion.

He jumped the first two fences on the regular Mildmay course, not the National obstacles, quickly and comfortably

But when jockey Tom Scudamore asked him up for the third, the nine-year-old took an extra stride and got in much too close.

The Milnathort trainer will now see how he’s come out of his brief re-introduction to fences, before preparing a new plan.

It’s almost certain that will involve a trip back to the Warwick Classic next month, his last assignment before the National last year.
