Crumpled floors woe ironed out

-

RAW Deal has helped smooth out an 18-month dispute over a bumpy living-room floor.

Steven Blacklock had luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring laid at his home in Galashiels about two years ago with a 10-year guarantee from his local branch of Carpetright. It cost £1,500.

But Steven said after the first year bumps started to appear in it so he contacted the company and they sent a fitter to trim the edges.

“The bumps were still there so we contacted them again,” Steven said.

“They said they would lift and re-lay the same floor, but we were not happy to have the same floor down as the bumps would still be in it.”

He then made numerous trips to Carpetright to try to find a solution but felt he was getting nowhere.

After contacting Raw Deal, we asked Carpetright to investigate. Good news is the company has now offered Steven £225 as a gesture of good will. He intends to put the cash towards having the flooring fixed independently.

Carpetright said: “We were sorry to hear that Mr and Mrs Blacklock were not happy with their LVT flooring.

“Our experienced store colleagues have investigated the issue thoroughly and concluded that we should take up the flooring and re-fit it with an expansion gap and new LVT underlay.

“However, this offer has been declined by the customers. We have also offered the customers the opportunity to choose a new LVT floor altogether, but this too has been declined.”
