Mary Poppins Returns, out next week, is a sequel 54 years in the making. Has Hollywood run out of ideas?

What could modern graphics add to a classic like Fantasia? It might end up looking like a modern-day advert with plinky plonk muzak.

David Collins, Yorkshire.

Sequels are usually not as good as the originals – except in truly great movies such as the Bond series.

Hamilton Mclean, Harwood

Some sequels can be better than the original. For example, many think Aliens is better than Alien. I certainly prefer sequels to remakes or reboots. Sometimes it’s enjoyable to simply see what happened next.

Lorna Smith, North Yorkshire

I’d like a sequel to Gone With The Wind, as I’d love to know how it all worked out for the characters.

Liz Kelly, Glasgow

All we seem to get are sequels to films from decades ago like Mary Poppins or live action covers of Disney films like The Lion King. It’s really lazy.

Fiona Reid, Forfar

I adored Mary Poppins 54 years ago as a seven-year-old. Our daughter watched it over and over in the ’80s and ’90s. I’m sure the next generation will be equally enthralled. I’d like them to do My Fair Lady next.

Judi Martin, Aberdeenshire

It would be fascinating to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang reimagined with modern film-making techniques.

Cheryl Payne, Hull

If the original was really good then it is difficult to accept the remake. Papillon is out soon but I doubt it will be as good as the original. Would love another sequel to 50 Shades of Grey.

Lorraine Anderson, Edinburgh

The Full Monty might deserve a sequel. love the original.
