Rare whisky on sale at £38,000 a bottle

-

One of the world’s rarest and most expensive whiskies is to go on the market for the first time, priced at £38,500 per bottle.

The Macallan 52-years-old 2018 will be released worldwide this month in a limited edition of just 250 individually numbered 70cl bottles.

The one-off single malt has been matured for 52 years in a handcrafted European oak sherry-seasoned cask, in a warehouse overlooked by Easter Elchies, the Speyside manor house that has been The Macallan’s spiritual home since it was founded in 1824.

The Macallan whisky-maker Sarah Burgess said: “Bottled at an ABV of 48%, the Macallan 52-years-old is an outstanding addition to our expanding range of unique, classic-aged whiskies.”
