No elves in safety row

Residents in a shelteredhousing complex have hit out at the council after being ordered to take down Christmas decorations for health and safety reasons.

A tree and other festive ornaments at Murray Court in Woodside have all been removed on the orders of Aberdeen City Council.

Residents say the move has “ruined the Christmas spirit”.

A council spokesman said items should not be left in communal areas which might obstruct access for firefighters.
