Hoop, hoop, hooray, get fit for Hogmanay!

Loved ones can help to keep you grounded

-

I’ve just spent a week in Florida with Jamie and Andy who were training and I managed to split my time between them in order to cramp their styles equally.

Part of Andy’s warm-up routine is to use a hula-hoop, so being the uber-competitive type, he immediately chucked me one and challenged me to see who could keep the hoop up for longest.

I haven’t used a hula-hoop in a long time and you can imagine how well Andy’s core muscles work and how efficient his technique is, so he was standing there smiling at me and barely moving while I struggled opposite him. But I tell you what, hula-hooping is really good for your core and your waistline – and you can do it in your own space and in your own time – so I’m going to keep practising and make this

part of my workout. It can be tough for sports stars when they’re put on the spot in a live situation, as poor Lewis Hamilton found at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

He told the audience it had been his dream to “get out of the slums”, before quickly correcting himself.

Unless you’re incredibly media savvy then everyone makes mistakes. He realised what he’d said but, once words were spoken they can’t be taken back, and people from his home town of Stevenage will have taken that as an insult.

When you’re famous you’ve got to take the rough with the

email judy your thoughts at smooth and you need loyal, supportive people around you.

The question to ask is, if everything was taken away from me, where would all these people be and what would I do?

The answer is you’d go back to your roots and to the people who care for you unconditionally.
