The Botanics is turned into a winter wonderland as the gardens are lit up with beautiful lights.

Take a walk round the trail as larger-than-life incandesce­nt flowers rise high into the sky towards illuminate­d tree sculptures with beads of light clinging to each branch.

The Cathedral Of Light contains more than 100,000 pea-lights and runs 70 metres long.

The trail culminates on Inverleith House Lawn where brightly-coloured projection­s dance in time to Christmas classics.

Bugle Boys: Christmas Crackers

Assembly Roxy, Edinburgh, until Dec 30

The Edinburgh Fringe hit sees the festival’s campest drag queens putting on a camp Christmas cabaret show full of humour, sass and crowd pleasers.

Festive hits by The Andrew Sisters, Bing Crosby, Wham, Kylie, Mariah Carey and lots more feature in a show combining live music, drag and suggestive comedy.

It’s described as a raunchy alternativ­e to the traditiona­l work Christmas social.

Mr Popper’s Penguins

Lomond Auditorium, SEC, Glasgow, until Jan 6

With original songs and performing penguin puppets, this 60-minute musical adaptation of Richard and Florence Atwater’s award-winning book (which was also made into a Hollywood film starring Jim Carrey) is described as perfect fair for ages four and up.

Painter and decorator by day, Mr Popper spends his time dreaming of Antarctic adventures. He is astounded one day when a packing crate arrives on his doorstep – and a penguin waddles out!
