Meet up with friends, go shopping, have a meal out. You have the warmth of summer to look forward to. I have some good books and jigsaws to while away the bad weather days.

Elizabeth O’regan, Lincoln

Wrap up, keep warm, go out and enjoy yourself if you can. Watch good movies with a wee brandy and some leftovers from New Year.

Margaret Brown, Rutherglen

I love the dark, wintry days with house lights on in the afternoons, looking out at the snow.

Judi Martin, Aberdeenshire

New Year is an exciting time. In the words of the song, always look on the bright side of life. We need to embrace what we have when we have it.

Sandra Ritchie, West Lothian

I look forward to getting back to my hobbies. Christmas and the New Year are ok but it’s good to get back to normal.

Hamilton Mclean, Harwood

I’m not downhearted. 2019 will be a year of opportunities and challenges.

Ronald James, Angus

I find January difficult with the lack of light and spring still too far away. I just do as little as possible and wait it out.

Liz Kelly, Glasgow

I love this time of year. Eat healthy, get fit and plan a nice holiday.

Carol Whitehead, Prestwich

Being retired, I enjoy the fact I don’t have to go out in the bad weather. I can just admire the snow falling.

Lorraine Anderson, Edinburgh

Neither my husband nor me find any particular month miserable – unless it rains during the cricket season! Always plenty to keep us occupied.

Lorna Smith, North Yorkshire
