How often should I wash my hair? I’ve read that washing it daily is bad for the minerals on my hair. Is this true?

Some people say that washing the hair regularly can strip it of its natural oils. But there are no set medical guidelines on how often you should wash your hair, it depends on your hair type and what suits yourself.

I’m 46 and a keen runner. Recently after a longer run I’ve begun to pass blood in my urine.

Any blood in the urine that is visible to the eye should be investigat­ed as soon as possible. See your doctor regarding this.

What causes nails to become crumbly? Mine are in a terrible state.

There are a number of conditions including fungal infections or underlying conditions such as psoriasis or anaemia. Thyroid problems can also give nail problems. If you have any ongoing worries about this visit your GP and have an examinatio­n.

What are the symptoms of Type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes can be asymptomat­ic and is often be picked up on a random blood test. However if you are symptomati­c you will likely be suffering from increased thirst and passing more urine than normal. If this is the case I recommend you see your doctor for a blood test.

Can adults get whooping cough?

Yes, particular­ly if they haven’t been immunised against Pertussis.

Can fruit juice help with constipati­on?

Yes it can. Increasing fruit and veg in general in the diet as well as a good fluid intake daily can help here.
