There has been more controversy over the use of VAR.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and Burnley boss Sean Dyche have voiced frustrations.

In the case of the penalty awarded to Harry Kane in Spurs’ game with Chelsea, Sarri (above) had every right to be disappointed.

I thought Kane was offside so a penalty shouldn’t have been awarded.

But that’s the thing with VAR – it is not always going to be 100% conclusive.

Many decisions, just like the Kane offside call, will still be down to opinion.

And VAR also has to be quicker, rather than a penalty decision being reversed as the taker is on his run-up, which was what frustrated Dyche.

In general, VAR is there to help the match officials.

They should see it as their friend and not as an enemy.

I’m in favour of the system, but only when it is used correctly and still allows a mechanism where the referee on the pitch has the final decision, not someone in a TV studio.

Just now there are teething problems that have to be ironed out.

As long as VAR is used properly and players don’t try to take advantage of it, then we must carry on to make use of its full benefits.
