A brace by Jack Smith and a late winner from super sub Stephen Macdonald saw SPARTANS move into the semi-final of the Football Nation Qualifying Cup semi-final at the expense of TRANENT JUNIORS. Spartans took the lead in the eighth minute when Jamie Dishington, playing his 150th game for the Ainslie Park side, set up Smith. Jamie Devlin levelled and got a second in the 31st minute when took advantage of a defensive slip-up. In the 79th minute, Smith got them back on level terms when shot home. Then, in the closing minutes, Macdonald sealed the win with a low shot which flew past the Juniors’ keeper to make it 3-2. Spartans meet Penicuik Athletic or Stirling Uni in the semi after their game was postponed.

Barry Ferguson’s KELTY HEARTS got a 2-0 win over East side CAMELON, but have to wait for their semi opponents. Peebles Rovers have still to play Jeanfield Swifts and the winners meet Bonnyrigg Rose. Kelty got back to winning form, but it took them 52 minutes to break the former junior side’s defence. It was a goal worth waiting for with Chris Dodd hitting a great strike high into the net. Then, in the 80th minute, Murray Carstairs sealed the win when he headed home a corner.
