Tae a moose...and all creatures under our feet

-

Was anybody else blown away by the fantastic image that won this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year LUMIX People’s Choice Award? Sam Rowley’s picture called “Station Squabble” shows two mice fighting over a scrap of food on a tube station platform, and received more than 28,000 votes from the public, who ranked the image higher than snaps of more exotic creatures such as lions, elephants and leopards.

I’m not usually one for finding a deeper meaning in artwork or photography, but reading some of the articles describing the intricate details of the picture really did make me think. Here we have two little tiny animals living underground, probably never seeing a blade of grass or the light of day, always scurrying around unseen in our stations and subways.

There will be hundreds of them all fighting to survive and relying on the scraps we leave behind. There really is a dog eat dog (or should that be mouse eat mouse?) world down there under our feet.
