Pets are much more than just companions

I feel I need to respond to Judy Murray’s comment that calling pets companions is barking.

Eighteen months ago, I had the awful task of having my companion pet put to sleep because of illness.

My husband and I had Smurfie from six weeks old until she died at 15 years.

When my husband was very seriously ill, Smurfie was my rock. In the years that we had the pleasure of her company, we never had to chastise her for anything. Smurfie, was not only a very good dog but a dear friend and a very loving companion.
