MCILROY HOLDS SHARE OF THE LEAD AT RIVIERA

-

Rory Mcilroy heads into today’s final round of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera in a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard.

The Northern Irishman, who shot a third-round 68, sits at 10-under-par alongside Matt Kuchar and Australian Adam Scott.

The trio are one shot clear of Russell Henley and Harold Varner III.

Tournament host, Tiger Woods, had a day to forget as he fired a five-over-par 76 to fall back into a tie for 63rd on a five-over total of 218.

When asked of any positives from his round, the 44-year-old could only muster: “Well, I’m done.”

But then added, “It’s a new day tomorrow. That’s the way golf is, put it in the past and try to learn from what I did right and wrong. Obviously there wasn’t a whole lot I did right today, and figure it out for tomorrow.”

■ Christiaan Bezuidenhout carded a three-under-par round of 69 – and his third successive bogey-free back nine – as he moved into a two-stroke lead after yesterday’s third round of the Dimension Data Pro-am in South Africa.

The South African leads at Fancourt Golf Estate on 20-under-par and is two shots clear of Santiago Tarrio Ben and George Coetzee, who share second place on 18-under-par following another day of high-quality golf.

Bezuidenhout, who won the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation on the European Tour last year, will head into the final day as the man to catch after a pleasing third-round display.

“It could’ve been even better today,” he said.

“Tee to green, I felt like I played really well. The greens are firm so it’s tough to get it close to the holes.”
