sir KENNY ON...

- jackie mcnamara

I was left stunned last weekend by the news that Jackie Mcnamara had collapsed at home in Yorkshire. He went through an emergency operation on Monday and, thankfully, good progress appears to have been made in the past few days. I obviously know Jackie’s dad, Jackie Snr, from our playing days together, and young Jackie was at Celtic Park when I returned in season 1999-2000. He was a smashing fella to have around the club. Jackie wasn’t the tallest of players, but – my word – he has a heart the size of a lion. He would never shirk a 50-50, and gave everything for the jersey. He was a guy every team-mate would want in the trenches beside him. I was with him at a lunch event in Glasgow back in October, and he was great company. He was enjoying the business ventures he was involved in, and also doing football agency work. His focus now has to be on making a full recovery, and enjoying time with his wife, Sam, and their children. At 46, he has plenty of time ahead of him, and he’ll be getting the best care, guidance and support to make sure his recovery goes in the best possible direction.
