Future of flights left up in the Ayr
“Prestwick In The Balance,” warned a story about the Ayrshire airport’s future.
“The long-running saga of Prestwick Airport could soon be at an end, with an ‘open-skies’ policy in Scotland for flights across the Atlantic. Transport Secretary Cecil Parkinson is on the brink of ending Prestwick’s monopoly on transatlantic flights. This will open Glasgow and Edinburgh airports for flights to and from North America.
“A decision in favour of deregulation is expected by the end of the month. This will confirm a Court of Session judgment, which overturned the traffic distribution rules. These said all transatlantic flights to Scotland had to touch down at Prestwick.”
Prestwick ultimately lost the battle.
