40 YEARS AGO

Aberdeen thumped Airdrie 8-0 in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

Steve Archibald (above) scored four times in the first half at Pittodrie, with Willie Miller, Gordon Strachan, John Mcmaster and Ian Scanlon on target after the break.

Frank Mcdougall put St Mirren ahead at Celtic Park, but Murdo Macleod hit a second-half equaliser for the Hoops.

A Derek Johnstone goal three minutes from time gave Rangers a 1-0 win over Dundee United.
