King Kenny calls for Chris

-

Scotland’s most-capped player has suggested there should be an international recall for Chris Burke.

With Steve Clarke’s squad for next months Nations League ties out soon, Sir Kenny Dalglish believes the Kilmarnock wingers should be part of it.

When it comes to international football, age should never be a barrier.

So I’d be right behind Steve Clarke if he decided to choose Chris Burke for his next Scotland squad.

He has been in sparkling form for Kilmarnock, scoring goals and being a real driving force and positive influence.

Yes, he’s 36, and his last cap was nearly six years ago.

But he is one of most consistent players in the country right now.

Steve, of course, will know Chris well, in terms of his character and ability, having had him as a player while he was Kilmarnock manager.

Current Rugby Park gaffer, Alex Dyer, is also Steve’s assistant at Scotland.

The squad will be announced soon for the Nations League game against Israel at Hampden on September 4.

If Steve thinks Chris can help the team achieve the desired result, then he will go with him.

We’re not talking about Chris being in the squad for the Euro Finals – hopefully – 10 months from now.

We are talking about trying to win the next game, and that is always the most important thing.

Chris scored a cracker on the opening day of the season away to Hibs.

He then showed wonderful composure to score against Celtic from the penalty spot, and got another last midweek away to Ross County.

He is clearly full of confidence and, by all accounts, is a top professional.

That’s what you want when guys are on international duty. Feeling good about yourself can rub off on others.
