Lennon will be leaning on Laxalt for the lowdown

Celtic have an important spy in the camp for their mid week clash with AC Milan.

Uruguayan left- back, Diego Laxalt, is on loan from the Italian side, but free to play against his parent club on Thursday.

Parkhead boss Neil Lennon will be picking his brains for information about the players he started this season with.

He said: “We’ll be leaning on Diego a lot in the coming days.

“It’s great that he’s free to play against them. That will be a bit of extra motivation for him.

“I’ve watched a bit of Milan so far. They’ve got strength in depth, and have made a great start to the Serie A campaign.

“I don’t think they’re at the levels they were, but that’s understandable because they’re in a re-building process.”

Lennon believes there’s no problem with Laxalt facing the team he’s under contract to, and sees no direct parallels with Mo Bangura playing against Celtic during his Elfsborg loan in 2013.

He went on: “Diego knows he’s going to be an integral part of our squad, and he’s probably been unfortunate not to play more for AC Milan.

“He had a good spell at Torino last season, and he’s been a brilliant player for his country over the last few years.

“It was a bit controversial when Mo Bangura played against us, and we weren’t overly keen on it at the time. But the player made the decision himself.

“This situation isn’t as angsty with AC Milan, and Diego was given permission to play as part of the deal. So both clubs are quite relaxed about it.

“It can leave you with a bit of a bloody nose sometimes.

“Barcelona were OK with Philippe Coutinho playing against them, and it might have come back and bit them, but he’s now playing again with his parent club.

“From Diego’s point of view, we’re not just talking about this specific game. It’s a good career move for him, and important for his development to play regularly .

“The British culture is a style he wants to adapt to.”

Celtic keeper Vasilis Barkas – who was flown back on a private jet by Celtic from international duty with Greece– believes they can’t get caught up in AC Milan’s historical success.

He said: “The history is one part of things, but Celtic also have history.

“On e game is 90 minutes, it’s not history.

“The players have to play the game. The history is another thing.

“I have not played against Milan before. AEK Athens played two goalless draws against them in the Europa League in 2017, but I was injured.”

Swedish superstar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will be a major threat for Milan in Glasgow

Barkas added: “Zlatan is a very big name. So we must do our best to make sure he does not score, but also we need to make sure the other Milan players do not score.

“We want to take the points We will give our best, and I believe we can get a good result.”
