Holt backs his keeper to learn from mistakes

- By Darren Johnstone SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Gary Holt refused to point the finger of blame at Robby Mccrorie after watching Livingston crash to a 3- 1 defeat to Kilmarnock.

The on loan Rangers goalkeeper would have been disappointed with himself in the build-up to equaliser before being at fault for the third.

Aaron Tshibola levelled for the visitors after Mccrorie could only push out Chris Burke’s effort straight at the feet of the forward.

And after Burke converted a penalty, the Scotland squad keeper then made a mess of Zeno Ibsen Rossi’s cross to allow Greg Kiltie to tap in for a third.

But Holt, whose team took the lead through Scott Pittman, insists the 22- year- old will recover from his disappointing afternoon.

He said: “The goalkeeper is learning his trade. He’s done well for us.

“He’s made a mistake, he probably thought he had more time to gather it and he’s been unlucky.

“It’s a lonely world being a goalkeeper. “The third goal has taken the wind out of our sails.

“Robby has held his hands up and said he cost us, but he didn’t.”

The Livingston boss, who saw Alan Forrest and Jay Emmanuel- Thomas strike the frame of the goal in the second half, added: “They’re seasoned campaigners at it.

“K i l m a r n o c k , Mo t h e r w e l l , St Johnstone, they’ve all been in this league for a long time and they know how to grind out wins and sucker-punch you.

“We need to take this on the chin and learn from it because I thought there was a lot of good play, good chances. But Kilmarnock are a good side.

“I can’t fault my lads for effort and commitment and creating chances.

“Did Kilmarnock play any differently than what I expected? No they didn’t. But they will be cock- a- hoop because they got the win.

“I feel a bit aggrieved for the lads because they put in a shift, created lots of chances, hit the woodwork twice, scored a good goal.

“I can’t go round and tell them they were rubbish because they all put a shift in. We dominated possession but we lost 3-1 and we have to take that on the chin and get the stick that goes with it.”
