STIRLING ALB 0 QUEEN’S PK 0 Late Lyons miss forces Forthbank stalemate

-

Title favourites Queen’s Park had to settle for a point at Forthbank as a keen encounter ended goalless.

Stirling almost went ahead in 13 minutes when Willie Muir tipped a David Wilson free-kick on to the bar.

Midfielder Jack Leitch fired wide for Stirling, then, at the other end, Bob Mchugh had the ball in the net, but the flag had gone up for offside.

In the second half, the visitors enjoyed some good spells and 18-year-old Harry Stone – signed on an emergency loan from Hearts as both Blair Currie and Cammy Binnie were ruled out – did well to keep out a Will Baynham header.

Darren Lyon missed a great chance to win it for the Spiders with eight minutes left when he headed over the bar.

ALBION ROV 1 STENHOUSEMUIR 3

Paul Brown came close for the Warriors early on with a 25-yard shot which skipped narrowly wide of the post.

Greig Spence fired Stenhousemuir in front after 29 minutes after Tommy Muir had delivered the perfect low cross.

Stenny continued to look lively after the break and Jack Hodge had an early opportunity, but could not connect.

Albion’s Gregor Fotheringham forced a decent save from Graeme Smith.

Just as Albion were enjoying their best spell, Stenhousemuir hit them with a sucker-punch. Creag Little rose high above the home defence to head the ball home from a Callum Tapping free-kick.

Substitute Botti Biabi slotted home the third after good work by David Hopkirk with five minutes left, before Kyle Doherty pulled back a consolation.

Edinburgh regained their two-goal advantage in 55 minutes when Blair Henderson converted a penalty after Danny Handling had been fouled.

A 20 yard strike from Josh Campbell in the 78th minute made it 4-1, with a Danny Jardine tap-in eight minutes from time completing the rout.

COWDENBEATH 0 ANNAN 3

Annan took the lead in 14 minutes as Nathan Flanagan cut into the box and fired an angled shot wide of Ross Sinclair.

In 27 minutes, Annan grabbed a second. Flanagan was the provider this time with a cross from the right and Iain Anderson fired a 10-yard header into the corner of the net.

On 55 minutes when Graham Taylor’s cross was armed away by Annan’s Lewis Hunter, but the ref waved play on.

Five minutes later Jack Purdie tied up the points for Annan with a 12-yarder.

STRANRAER 1 ELGIN CITY 4

Visitors Elgin took the lead when former Stranraer man Smart Osadolor cut open the defence and Russell Dingwall fired beyond home goalkeeper Greg Fleming.

Just after half time, Dingwall turned provider and set up Kane Hester to pick his spot from inside the box.

Home sub Cameron Elliott hit the post, but, moments later, it was well and truly game over as Elgin made it 3-0.

Again, Dingwall was involved as he teed up former Stranraer man Conor O’keefe, who lifted the ball beyond Fleming from the edge of the box.

Stranraer thought they had found a way back into the tie with just under 15 minutes left when Tom Devitt headed home his first for the club.

However, those hopes were quickly extinguished as Kieran Millar was shown a straight red card after bringing down Hester in the box. Dingwall then kept his cool to smash home the spot-kick.
