Competition for places pleases Jose

- By Jonathan Veal SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is revelling in how his players are worried about their place in the team.

Mourinho has praised chairman Daniel Levy for helping him to assemble a Spurs squad that has significant strength in depth.

They have brought in Pierre- Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, Joe Hart, Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon, Carlos Vinicius and Joe Rodon.

Mourinho now has a selection headache for the game against West Ham today.

“I can feel in the players these feelings that I love, which is that they are happy but they are worried,” he said.

“They are happy that the squad is good, they are happy to see players coming in and making the squad better but at the same time they are worried about themselves.

“This is the kind of feeling you have in the top teams and we are having that now.”

Spurs, who have scored 13 goals in their last two games, have an embarrassment of riches in the attacking third, with Bale and Vinicius to come into the fray.

Mourinho says it is among his best ever. He said: “With the number of players, yes. Looking just at the attacking three positions, ( Harry) Kane and Vinicius, Son ( Heung- min), ( Steven) Bergwijn, ( Erik) Lamela, Lucas ( Moura) and maybe I forgot somebody.

“Especially in these three attacking positions it is top quality and great numbers.”

David Moyes believes Said Benrahma can bring an extra dimension to West Ham.

Algeria winger Benrahma completed a last- minute switch from Brentford on deadline day, understood to be worth up to £ 30 million, despite a hitch with his medical.

The 25- year- old attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs after scoring 17 goals in Brentford’s run to the Championship play- off final last season.

“What I’m looking for is, he scored 17 goals last season, the season before 14 goals and something like 10 assists,” said the Hammers boss.

“So you’re asking me what I want him to bring to the club? I want him to bring these goals and these assists to the club.”
