Hats off to O’hara and his second-half goals salvo

- By Bill Anderson SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Kevin O’hara stung his former Wasps team-mates as Dunfermline cantered to a fine 4-1 victory at the Indodrill Stadium.

And Pars boss Stevie Crawford could not hide his delight at the final whistle, thrilled with the result of what was a one-sided match.

He said: “Alloa is not an easy place to come to and to take the three points is encouraging. We worked hard in our build-up for the match knowing that Alloa are a hard team to beat but we stuck to our game plan and got the result.

“Bringing on Kevin O’hara worked for us and he made a difference and scoring a hat-trick is a great situation to be in.

“We now want to keep the momentum going and we are encouraged to have six points from two games.”

From the start Dunfermline pressured the Alloa defence with Ryan Dow and Declan Mcmanus a constant threat and in the opening minutes the home side were seldom out of their own half.

The Pars got the reward that their play deserved with an opening goal from Dow who, from a poor defensive clearance, rounded the home keeper to slot home from close range past Willison in the home goal.

The Wasps were seldom out of their own half but slowly fought their way back into the match and in the closing minute of the first half managed to level the score with an outstanding goal from Kevin Cawley.

He headed home from close range from an Innes Murray cross that caught out the Pars’ defenders when it sailed over their heads.

Dunfermline brought on O’hara to freshen up the play and he was on the field less that one minute when he put the visitors ahead.

Willison in the home goal hesitated to clear a cross and O’hara nipped in to slip the ball past the stranded keeper to double the visitors’ lead.

O’hara scored his second and the visitors’ third goal when he was on hand to slot the ball home from close range in the 77th minute.

Then the former Alloa star scored from the spot in the 89th minute following a clumsy challenge on Kyle Turner by Edin Lynch to complete a fine hat-trick.

Dunfermline were deserved winners and Wasps’ boss Peter Grant was disappointed with the result, commenting: “We needed to be more aggressive today. We thought that we could take something from this match but it did not turn out that way.

“We played well enough and did not deserve to lose four goals.

“Games are won and lost inside the penalty box and we need to be a bit more aggressive, take our chances and defend better.

“We have set ourselves a high standard here at Alloa and we need to defend better.”
