TOWN SEND WILL HAVE TO DO WITHOUT TWO OF HIS KEY MEN

-

Scotland might have to do without their two main playmakers for the rest of the Autumn Nations Cup, writes Alan Shaw.

First-choice fly-half Finn Russell, recalled to the colours for his first start after healing his rift with coach Gregor Townsend, limped off after just half-an-hour of the 14-10 win against

Wales at Llanelli’s Parc Y Scarlets.

And his understudy Adam Hastings had to be led from the field in the second half, leaving skipper Stuart Hogg filling in at stand-off.

It meant all three shared the kicking duties, each goaling a penalty to add to Stuart Mcinally’s try, and Townsend said: “They’re sitting in the changing-room, Finn’s in more pain than Adam.

“Finn was involved in a tackle and his leg went to the side and he felt something give way in his groin or adductor, the more specific term.

“That’ll be a wait and see. It’s similar to what (Scotland lock) Grant Gilchrist felt playing in Munster, a couple of days later he thought he’d be OK but that unfortunately that wasn’t the case and he’s had to have surgery.

“We’ll wait over the next two or three days on scan results and see where Finn is.

“Adam popped his shoulder twice in the second half. The first one went back in quickly and he carried on and played very well, the second one meant he had to be removed from the field of play to get treated.

“With those ones you never know, it might be that he’s done more damage or it’s just a clean pop and it won’t keep him out too long.

“We’ve obviously got depth at 10, Duncan Weir’s been playing really well and we have options within our squad.”
