More positive tests mean doubts over France game

-

France’s Gabin Villiere and Mohamed Haouas have joined Antoine Dupont in testing positive for Covid-19 and are now doubts to face Scotland in Paris next Sunday.

France’s health minister said on Thursday that anyone testing positive would need to remain out of contact with others for 10 days, up from seven.

All members of the France squad will be tested again today, when the unbeaten Six Nations leaders will announce a new 31-man training squad for the Scotland game.

The French Rugby Federation announced scrum-half Dupont’s result on Friday, with those of wing Villiere and prop Haouas revealed yesterday.

Head coach Fabien Galthie and assistant William Servat tested positive earlier in the week and have been isolating.

Former New Zealand fly-half, Dan Carter, has announced his retirement from professional rugby union.

The 38-year-old won twoworld Cups during a 12-year spell with the All Blacks, and bowed out of the international scene with a man-ofthe-match display against Australia in the 2015World Cup Final.

Carter remains the highest points scorer in Test-match rugby union with 1,598.

He left Kobelco Steelers last April before he signed for Auckland Blues in June, although he failed to make an appearance for the Super Rugby club.

In a post on Instagram, Carter said: “I’ve thought about this on so many occasions, but today is the day and I am very grateful that I can do it on my terms.

“I’m officially retiring from professional rugby.

“For now, I’m sad to walk away from playing but the timing is right.

“Rugby will always be a part of my life. Thank you.”
