Dawson‘buzzing’ at delivering personal best in Manchester
Scotland’s Kathleen Dawson delivered a superb performance to lower her personal best in winning the women’s 100 metres backstroke at the British Swimming invitation meet at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.
Dawson had already impressed with victory over 50m on Friday night and produced another dominant display as she clocked 58.65 seconds, in what was the fastest swim by a British competitor outside the suited era, ahead of training partner Cassie Wild.
“I kind of expected to go a 58 because I have been swimming so well at these time trials we have been doing in Stirling, but I am still buzzing with it,” Dawson said in quotes on www. britishswimming.org.
Adam Peaty, the 2016 Olympic 100m breaststroke champion, won the 50m breaststroke ahead of James Wilby.
Scotland’s Duncan Scott claimed victory in both the men’s 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
“I train to do doubles like that and it was good I was able
to execute the races the way that I wanted to,” Scott said.
“They were hard races and there are some boys in there who are really quick and it was good to go against some of those 200 IM boys.”
James Guy came within a second of his personal best to win the 200m butterfly, and Swansea’s Daniel Jervis won the 1,500m freestyle event.
Freya Anderson edged out Abbie Wood to win the women’s 200m freestyle, while Sarah Vasey finished ahead of National Centre Loughborough team-mate Molly Renshaw in the 100m breaststroke and Olympic hopeful Aimee Willmott won the 400m individual
