The Sunday Post (Dundee)

Welcome to my potting shed! This is the column where I’ll share all my gardening hints and tips – and I’ll try to answer any queries you may have.

What should I do with my amaryllis now that it has finished flowering? – Mandy White, Motherwell

Cut off the flower stem, keep feeding and watering. In late summer cut back on water, let the leaves go brown, cut these off then start watering and feeding again and it will reflower.

Are there any hardy plants that will help to give my garden an exotic feel? – Alison Coulthard, Dumfries

Fatsia japonica looks tropical but is very tough. New Zealand flax, Phormium tenax, will recover even if frosted and Rodgersia has huge, lush leaves.
