James Mcintyre (1827–1906) was born in Forres, before emigrating to Canada, where he became known as “The Chaucer Of Cheese”.

Head to Helmsdale beach in Sutherland.

The boulder beds there are rich in fossils from the Jurassic period, particularly reptiles, fish and ammonites.

And look out for large corals, which can often be found simply lying on the foreshore. There are so many, you are almost guaranteed to find at least one large fossil.
