Where to get help for your mobility needs

-

Just because you have a physical limitation doesn’t mean your life has to get smaller.

Thanks to companies across Scotland, people are continuing to live full and happy lives, even if they are a wee bit less mobile than they once were.

Whether it’s getting a walking stick or frame to offer a bit of extra support when you are on your feet, or a wheelchair or scooter for when walking gets a bit much, there are lots of solutions that will help keep you on the move.

There are entire ranges available, so it’s a case of deciding what you need from your mobility aids and letting the experts guide you on the best options.

And if you want to go further afield, it might be worth investing in a wheelchair-accessible vehicle so that you don’t need to pack a wheelchair in the boot and wrestle with it every time you get in and out of the car. When you are at home, safety and comfort are key. If you have steps, a stairlift can reduce the pressure on legs and hips by lightening the load.

A comfy chair can make all the difference and there are options like rise-and-recline chairs or uplifting seats so you can be comfortable but also able to get up and down with ease. Other gadgets like adjustable beds – that can come with bed tables, pressure-reducing mattresses, pillow lifts and a whole range of other features – can give you a better night’s sleep.

And to prevent slips and falls, there are companies who can install bath and shower lifts, walk-in showers and hand rails. Smaller items like grabbers and kettle tippers are also available.

So if you have a physical limitation, remember: it doesn’t need to limit your whole life.
