Queen’s Park well on top against Bullywee but have late spot of bother

-

CLYDE 1 QUEEN’S PARK 1

Clyde and Queen’s Park shared two goals and the League 1 points at Broadwood.

The Spiders, with just one victory in their last 10 games in all competitions, almost went ahead after eight minutes when Luca Connell sent Luis Longstaff away on the left. His cross picked out Grant Gillespie at the back post, but Adam Livingstone blocked on the line.

The Glasgow side, who have now drawn six of their last nine league games, continued to impress and, after 19 minutes, a 25-yard snap-shot from Charlie Fox was well clutched low down by Bully Wee goalkeeper Neil Parry.

Queen’s, who have not picked up a win in their last five matches on their travels, dating back to mid-october, dominated the first period and might have gone in front two minutes from the interval, but Matthew Elsdon was on the line to block a Fox downward header.

Queen’s threatened again in 47 minutes when Tommy Robson sent Longstaff through with a clever reverse pass, but Parry got down well again to save.

The visitors finally, and deservedly, took the lead in 64 minutes when Connell swung over a corner from the left which Michael Doyle met with a powerful header. Parry should have done better, but let the ball squirm over the line.

Clyde, who have won just one of their last six home league games, levelled from the penalty spot in 70 minutes when substitute David Goodwillie netted after having been brought down by Lee Kilday.

EAST FIFE 0 FALKIRK 2

Falkirk were made to battle all the way for their victory against spirited hosts East Fife.

The bottom-of-the-league Fifers played the bulk of the game with 10 men, but a second-half Jaze Kaiba double saw the points return to the central belt.

Neither keeper was really tested during what was a cagey start to the game.

It took until the 15 minute-mark for a shot to be registered on target, Ryan Blair pulling a decent save out of Paddy Martin.

Moments later, the home side were reduced to 10 men when keeper Jude Smith was shown a straight red card for handling outside his box.

The sending-off gave Falkirk a lift, but, for all their dominance, they failed to really ask too many questions of sub goalie Scott Gallacher.

The Fifers were having to defend deep, but they were defending well.

They finished the first half strongly, with Blair again going close to opening the scoring.

Bairns boss Martin Rennie shuffled his pack at the break, introducing new loan signing from Livingston, Jaze Kaiba, in the place of Aidan Keena.

He wasted little time in making an impact, getting his head onto the end of a Craig Mcguffie cross to open the scoring.

East Fife responded well to going behind and Martin had to look lively to deny Scott Mercer.

They continued to press and Martin was again called into action to beat away Blair’s free-kick.

With East Fife pressing high up the park and hunting an equaliser, Kaiba netted his second on the counter attack.

COWDENBEATH 0 STRANRAER 1

In League 2 action, Stranraer made the long trip to meet Cowdenbeath at Central Park.

After a very quiet opening 10 minutes, Cowden’s Jacob Glass headed just over with 12 minutes on the clock, before

Stranraer’s Matt Yates got free in the home box and fired a 12-yard angled shot just wide.

The home side’s Fraser Mullen tested Stranraer keeper Jack Baker with a 30-yard free-kick and then, on the 20-minute mark, the visitors’ Sean Mcintosh saw home keeper Cammy Gill save his close-in shot.

In 25 minutes, Thomson’s 20-yard free-kick flew inches over the visiting bar, then Paul Woods tested Gill from 10 yards.

Before the interval, the home team’s Quinn Coulson twice saw close-in shots defied by visiting keeper Jack Baker.

Stranraer opened the second period brightly and Sam Ellis’s cross-cumshot roared inches wide, then, after 65 minutes, Gill made a fine save from a close-in Mcintosh shot.

The visitors started to dominate possession in the closing quarter and, in 84 minutes, they took the lead from the penalty spot.

Gavin Morrison impeded Mcintosh after a Gill save and Matt Yates won the game by converting the penalty.
