Restaurant of the week
Oldmillroad, Bothwell, Lanarkshire
Cut Location
Right in the heart of Bothwell, it takes pride of place in a lovely bustling little village. Easily accessible by car or public transport.
First impressions
Housed in a huge red sandstone mansion, you get the feeling Cut is going to be gorgeous before crossing the threshold. And it is. Inside is stunning. Dark with pops of bright colour, stone walls and beautiful chandeliers – very modern and tasteful.
Service
A friendly waiter greets us and shows us to our table. Service is with a smile and everything arrives promptly. He even brings some colouring sheets and crayons for the little diners in tow.
Menu
There’s plenty to choose from on the menu, from Shetland mussels and seabass to chicken and burgers – but most people come to Cut for the steaks. Choose any cut you want, team it with sides and a sauce of your choice – and you can even have haggis, prawns or scallops on top. Simple.
Taste
We opt for the steak (it would be rude not to) and choose a fillet and a sirloin. Both arrive at the table with hand-cut chips and brandy and peppercorn sauce. We also opt for a parmesan and rocket salad on the side. Every bite is delicious. Even with such large portions, we still manage to clear our plates. The kids lapped up their mac cheese and fish goujons too.
Ambience
There’s a lovely vibe in Cut. Despite a busy weekend service, we never felt rushed. Even though when we booked there was a time back for the table, our waiter offered to squeeze in dessert if we fancied. Needless to say, we were too full!
Price
Our bill came in at just over £100 for two adults and two children which, given it was a steak dinner, was very reasonable indeed.
