Danny is looking for Dee’s Sunday best for a change

Danny Mullen’s future may be unclear, but one thing he is certain of is his determination to help Dundee beat the drop.

The 27-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the season, and it seems increasingly likely he won’t sign a new deal at Dens Park.

Mullen is keeping tight-lipped over his plans, but he did admit that if he does ultimately leave the club he joined from St Mirren two years ago, he will have done everything in his power to keep the Dark Blues in the Premiership.

He said: “Yes, 100%. I have loved my time at the club. Every game I go into, I want to score goals and help the team.

“We want to keep Dundee in the league. That’s the aim of every person in the changing room, no matter whether they will be here next season or not.

“We don’t ever go out expecting to get beaten, and we are all pushing one way.”

Bottom-of-thetable Dundee face title-chasing Rangers today, just a week after they were beaten 3-0 by Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side at the same venue in the Scottish Cup.

However, Mullen insists they have been working on a game plan they believe can help them upset the odds.

Mullen said: “We have looked over where we went wrong the last time, and we will be looking to get some points on the board.

“We always have the work ethic and fight for each other. We just have to bring that again and add our game plan. Then, hopefully, we can get something.

“It is tough when you are defending for long periods, but when we do get the chance to break forward, we need to get guys closer to myself.”

Rangers played in Belgrade on Thursday night against Red Star, and Mullen believes Dundee could take advantage if they can make a fast start.

Mullen said: “Hopefully it takes them a bit to get going after all their travelling.

“They would have put a lot into the Red Star game, so it would be good to start fast and take the lead. But if that doesn’t happen, we need to dig in and just manage the game.”

Home fans were noticeable by their absence last Sunday, and Mullen admits the supporters are due a big result and performance from the team.

“We owe the fans as it hasn’t been the best of seasons,” he admitted. “We always give everything, but at times we have not had the rub of the green.

“Hopefully we can get that, and we can give the fans something to go home and cheer about.”
