Gates: I still miss ex-wife and I’m glad she is in my lifeeveryday
Microsoft tycoon Bill Gates has revealed that he still misses his ex- wife Melinda after they split a year ago.
The businessman shocked the world when he announced in May 2021 that the couple, cofounders of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, were going their separate ways. They were divorced after 27 years of marriage in August last year.
In a magazine interview, Bill, 66, said: “Melinda and I... I feel lucky that I get to work with her. And we have the annual employee meeting at the Foundation and the Giving Pledge and the annual meeting in June that she and I host together. We have a super- important, complex, close relationship where we’ve chosen to work together. And I’m very happy that we get to work together. We built the Foundation together.”
Less than one month after the billionaire’s couple split made headlines, the Microsoft founder was reportedly investigated for having an affair with an engineer beginning in 2000.
The billionaire said he was still grieving for the relationship.
The former couple wed in Lanai, Hawaii, in January 1994.
They went on to have three children, Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe.
He added: “I’m also grieving the same way she is. We grew up together. When I got married, yeah, Microsoft was a big deal.
“But I was a young 38- year- old and she was a mature 28-year-old and over those next few years, in terms of what we learnt together, what went well, what didn’t go well I mean, that’s more than half my adult life. Every marriage as the kids leave the house will go through a transition. Mine sadly went through this transition called divorce. But from my point of view it was a great marriage. I wouldn’t have changed it.
“You know, I wouldn’t choose to marry someone else. In terms of my future, I don’t have any plans, but I highly recommend marriage. We’re very lucky people.”
