Boss delighted as Hull hit back after derby loss

-

Hull coach Brett Hodgson lauded his side’s response to their derby defeat after they extended their winning Super League run to three matches with a 48-12 thrashing of Toulouse.

Since losing to Rovers on Good Friday, Hodgson’s side have edged past Warrington and Catalans Dragons before they ran in nine tries against Toulouse to make it three home wins inside two weeks.

Hull went behind early on yesterday but found their groove in attack, with Connor Wynne and Darnell Mcintosh both scoring hat-tricks to move the Black and Whites into the top four.

Hodgson said: “It was a very professional performance. There are elements for us to work on but today it was about doing enough to win the game.

“We knew that ( Toulouse) would have a go. They’re very physical and I think there will be a few sore bodies on both sides after that game.

“We set our targets and we wanted to do everything we can to perform well at home during this period and the way we’ve responded after the Hull KR defeat is really pleasing.”

Hodgson was happy with a number of his players, particularly hat-trick heroes Wynne and Mcintosh.

“It’s good that he ( Wynne) came in and did that,” Hodgson said.

“That’s what we’re asking all the boys to do and take their opportunities.

“We had a number of good performers today. Darnell was great in all aspects of his game, Connor Wynne was good, Ligi Sao was absolutely unbelievable again today.

“We’ve got a lot of players contributing well and we’re getting the results on the back of that.”

Toulouse opened the scoring in both halves but struggled to handle Hull’s superior physicality throughout the match.

Visiting boss Sylvain Houles said: “I think we matched them at the start of both halves and put them under pressure, then after that we missed a penalty kick to touch and that was a turning point, especially playing against a side like Hull. They’re that big and strong.

“We weren’t realistically expecting to win today, but to fight and I saw that. We expected Hull to come down the middle a lot, which they did and they have plenty of quality players and when you don’t control them it’s easy to play like that.”
