Celts deserve to pick up the major awards

-

It’s that time of the season when the various awards are being handed out, and they will all be close run things.

The Player of the Year list, for me, has five contenders.

Callum Mcgregor, James Tavernier, Craig Gordon, Cameron Carter-vickers and Regan Charles-cook.

Tavernier, the Rangers captain, has once again led the club well, particularly since the turn of the year, and he has scored some crucial goals.

Hearts and Scotland goalkeeper, Gordon, has pulled off a number of incredible saves.

Carter-vickers has been rock solid at the back for Celtic, and they will be very keen to make his stay permanent.

At Ross County, Charles-cook has scored some brilliant goals and has been an amazing find by Malky Mackay.

But, for me, there is a clear winner, and it’s the Celtic captain.

Callum has led his team superbly well, and kept things together when results were poor at the start of the season.

He gave the new manager his full backing, and made sure the players stayed calm and focused.

On the park, he has driven the Celtic team on to success. Off the park, he has conducted himself in an exemplary manner.

The Manager of the Year also has worthy candidates.

Steve Clarke has received a nomination, and I’m all for Steve getting recognition as international management is different from doing the job at club level.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been great in Europe. Robbie Neilson has had a good season at Hearts, and the same applies to Kilmarnock’s Derek Mcinnes, and Dick Campbell at Arbroath.

But for me, Ange Postecoglou is the clear winner. He has completely turned Celtic around and has also recruited fantastically well.

He should be picking up every managerial gong available.
