It’s that time of year again when the diary is filling up with weddings, garden parties and generally any excuse to get dressed up and spend time celebrating the arrival of the sun.

Lauren Mcnally, from Lola’s Lashes, says faking it with false lashes is big on trend for the summer season. Here she gives her top tips on how to apply them...

Fast and fabulous

“Lashes give you so much confidence and can totally transform your whole make-up look,” said Mcnally.“you can literally go from ‘nice’ to ‘fabulous’ in seconds!

“They are a great way of avoiding panda eyes, which you will always get if you are wearing layers of mascara to try to obtain the same full-lash look. They are easier to remove too. No need for scrubbing!

“Some people struggle with the messy glue and fiddly application, but the big trend at the moment is magnetic and adhesive liners. All you need to do is pop the lashes straight on top of this and then they don’t budge.”

Choose your style

But it’s important to choose the right style for you, whether that’s full and flirty or subtle and sophisticated.

“Search online for images of eyes that look like yours to find out your eye shape, whether hooded, round, almond shape or whatever. Once you know your eye shape you can then choose the best lash for you.”

And if you don’t like a full lash, you can always opt for a half. “Half-lashes that cover just the outer corner of your eye are a huge trend at the moment,” said Mcnally. “They are a lot easier to apply than a full strip lash as you only need to pop them on the outer corner of your eye which is more accessible. They can give you a more subtle lash look and really open up your eyes.”

Get the look

Then it’s time to apply. But before you do...

● Trim the lash band so that it matches the width of your eyelid, otherwise, it will make application so much more difficult.

● Roll the lash band, to make this more flexible so it will follow the curve of your eyelid.

● Make sure your application method is ready before applying your lash, eg with magnetic liner this needs to be fully dry before popping on your magnetic lashes, then you’re ready to apply.

● Sandwich your natural lashes and the false lashes together and blend. You can do this by curling your lashes. This will press the false lashes and yours together. You can also blend your lashes and the falsies carefully with a spoolie or mascara.

“And maybe keep your liner or adhesive in your handbag for emergencies!” said Mcnally.
