Thousands celebrate in worldwide Pride events

-

Thousands of people celebrated Pride events around the world yesterday.

Pride Edinburgh marked its 25th anniversary, marching from the Scottish Parliament to Edinburgh University, while Pride Glasgow returned for the first time since the Covid lockdown in

2020. Canoeists and paddle boarders joined a Pride on the Clyde event.

In Warsaw, thousands of Poles and Ukrainians came together for a joint event, after Kyiv’s parade was cancelled due to Russia’s invasion. Lenny Emson, executive director of Kyivpride, said: “Russia denied us the right that we were fighting for for years, that is why we are marching in Warsaw.”

In the US, some of the world’s largest parades took place but in some states they were tinged with anger over Friday’s Supreme Court ruling giving states the power to make abortion illegal.
