Dens men triumph in Bluetoon

-

The visitors cruised to a comfortable win at Balmoor.

The home goalkeeper, playing as a trialist, was tested early on with two shots, one he saved well and the other whistled narrowly over the bar.

The opener came on 36 minutes when Finlay Robertson played a neat ball to Zak Rudden who then smartly chipped the advancing keeper to put Dundee in front at the break.

Niall Mcginn doubled their lead a minute after the restart when he accepted a through ball from Alex Jakubiak, and the Northern Irish international waited a second before slipping the ball easily into the net.

Sub Luke Mccowan hit the third on 71 minutes when he exploited a gap in the home defence and hit a low, 18-yard drive under the keeper.

The icing on the cake for the Dark Blues came three minutes later when former Blue Toon player, Josh Mulligan rounded the trialist keeper to finish the scoring.

Peterhead midfielder Andrew Mccarthy had to be helped off the pitch with a leg injury with just three minutes left to play following a strong challenge by Mulligan.

MONTROSE 1 ARBROATH 11

This game doubled as a testimonial for long-serving Montrose player, Terry Masson, but despite the friendly tag, the 994 fans were treated to an entertaining match with a draw ultimately a fair result.

Montrose had the edge in the first half and the Gable Endies side went ahead in eight minutes when Craig Brown side-footed the ball home from a cross by Craig Johnston.

The Red Lichties came more into the match in the second period, spurred on especially by the direct running of substitute Bobby Linn.

Arbroath should have drawn level on 64 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. However, Kieran Shanks’ attempt was well saved by home keeper Aaron Lennox, a half-time substitute, diving low to his right.

The Lichties finally got their reward with just a minute left on the clock when one of their trialists shot high into the corner of the net from just outside the box.
