Kelty draw on their fighting spirit to level up with Raith

KELTY HEARTS 1 RAITH ROVERS 1

-

Kelty gave their Champ ionsh ip opponents a tough test.

There was little between the sides in the opening stages, but just before the half hour mark Kelty’s Alfredo Agyeman broke through but Ross Millem stopped the danger with a timely tackle.

In the 34th minute Raith took the lead when a corner fell to Jamie Gullan and he slotted home.

They almost doubled the score two minutes before the break but a Trialist fired past the upright from the edge of the box. The first real chance of the second half saw the Maroon Machine back on level terms when Agyeman turned in the box before firing into the net from 15 yards.

HAMILTON 1 QOS 3

New Hamilton boss John Rankin took charge for the first time but saw his Accies side lose at home to Queen of the South.

Queen’s opened the scoring on five minutes with returning midfielder Connor Murray turning in Kieran Mckechnie’s low cut- back. Accies levelled 10 minutes later when Andy Winter converted from a trialist’s pass. On 74 minutes, the Doonhamers took the lead when Ruari Paton’s attempt to find Josh Todd saw the ball bounce off Accies keeper Ryan Fulton into the net. The Palmerston club rounded off the win when Lee Connelly curled a low shot into the far corner.

George Oakley’s inclusion in the Championship side’s line- up as a trialist was the main talking point pre- game as the Caley Jags looked to add further goals to the 10 they blasted past Clach in midweek.

Roddy Macgregor hit the post for the visitors and Jo r d a n Ma c r a e mirrored that at the other end with Cammy Mackay beaten.

The breakthrough came on 54 minutes. Austin Samuels played a per fectly weighted through- ball for Aaron Doran to smash home.

Brora s hould have levelled from the spot but Jordan Macrae saw his kick saved, with Andy Macrae’s follow- up also being turned away by Mark Ridgers.

COVE 8 GALA 1

Championship new boys Cove sent Lowland League outfit Gala Fairydean Rovers reeling with an eight-goal salvo.

Rory Mcallister forced home the opener from a Mark Reynolds knockdown but Zander Murray restored parity on the half- hour mark with a neat finish. A defensive error saw Blair Yule set up Robbie Leitch to smash Cove back in front before the break.

Leighton Mcintosh came on at half- time and soon scored before setting up Iain Vigurs for number four. Fraser Fyvie got in on the act with a typically crisp f i n i s h . Mo r g y n Ne i l l nodded in the sixth before Vigurs’ fed Shay Logan and he crossed to the back post for Fyvie to collect his second. The scoring was rounded off in unfortunate fashion, Rovers defender Gregor Jordan turning the ball into his own net.
