I want to make sure my boys are happy and I can leave our home to both of them

Including a Protected Property Trust in your Will provides great peace of mind for you and your family, especially in times of uncertainty.

Carole Smith, who lives in Westhill, Aberdeen, knows this well. When her husband, Tony, was recently diagnosed with dementia, the mother of three knew she wanted to protect her property.

“I will look after my husband for as long as I can, but I was thinking, what will happen if he has to go into a home, and then what if I have to go into a home? I have jewellery to leave to my daughter, who stays in supported living, but this house is all we have to leave our sons, so I don’t want to lose it.”

Mrs Smith, 73, originally decided to contact ILAWS after reading a positive review in the paper.

“It can be frightening when you get to my age. You don’t often know who you can trust,” she says. “I asked my sons’ advice and they said they thought the company looked good, so I gave ILAWS a call and spoke with a very nice person.

“They arranged for someone to come to the house and see us, which was a huge help as my husband can no longer drive, and I never have.

“They came when they said they would and explained all the benefits of a Protected Property Trust, and also advised us to update our Wills, as it was a long time since we had written them.

“They were so polite and helpful and I really feel choosing ILAWS was a wise move. All the documents were sent out very quickly and the price was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend ILAWS to anyone looking for legal advice. I could not fault the service.”

When we reach a certain age, time often seems to speed up, and that is why it is important to plan ahead when you can. As Mrs Smith says: “I know how quickly things can change. I will often see people I knew as young children, and now they have kids of their own.

“It always amazes me how much time has passed when it doesn’t feel like it at all.”

Including a Protected Property Trust in your Will means you can be sure your wishes are carried out, and it can prevent fallouts within your family.

“My boys have been wonderful, both in their own ways, and I want to make sure they are happy and that I can leave our home to both of them.”
