Fans angry at long queues outside festival

TRNSMT chaos as revellers wait in baking heat

Thousands of ticket- holders were forced to wait for almost two hours on one of the hottest days of the summer to get into TRNSMT music festival yesterday.

Promoters handed out water to the long queues threaded a round G lasgow Gre e n f rom the main entrance on Saltmarket as the music went on inside and fans voiced frustratio­n at an apparent lack of stewards and organisati­on.

One posted: “We’ve been queuing for hours in it now. There’s no stewards whatsoever.”

TRNSMT bosses thanked fans for their patience and said they were trying to get everyone in as quickly as possible. Around 50,000 people attended TRNSMT yesterday to enjoy the day headlined by The Strokes and The Snuts. Wet Leg, Self Esteem and Griff also played while Lewis Capaldi is due to appear at the final day of the event today. TRNSMT said: “There are currently longer than average waiting times for fans entering the festival.

“Our welfare teams are handing out water to those queuing and we’re doing our best to get everyone through security and inside as quickly and safely as possible.

“We’re g ra t e f u l for the patience of those waiting.”

On Fr i d a y, Sam Fender and Paolo Nutini were the main headline acts. TRNSMT organiser Geoff Ellis said: “Fr i d ay wa s t re m e n d o u s, to start off the day with the Bootleg Beatles was great, hearing all the audience sing along set the day off so well.”

He said the festival was aiming to help promote more women artists.

He said: “Our line- up is not quite 50-50 but including all the stages we’re not far off.

“We’re not short of fantastic female artists, Self Esteem who released probably one of the best albums of the past couple of years, Wet Leg, Ella Henderson in front of a huge crowd yesterday and Beabadoobe­e headlining the King Tut’s Stage on Friday.”
