Supersub Kyogo on song but late goal stuns Celts

-

Kyogo was on song for Celtic last night but his side had to settle for a 3-3 draw away to Rapid Vienna.

In a friendly that saw the Japanese score one and set up one, the Hoops got off to a perfect start.

Less than 10 minutes were on the clock when Matt O’riley scored a beauty from the edge of the box with a shot straight into the corner of the net.

The midfielder’s good work was undone when a defensive mix up at the back involving Cameron Carter-vickers and keeper Joe Hart allowed Bernhard Zimmerman to equalise.

Hoops’ manager Ange Postecoglou underlined the purpose of the game as a means to an end by making 10 changes at half-time.

Kyogo was one of them and he was lively right away, picking out David Turnbull who scored from close range to make it 2-1.

Rapid took the hint and changed all their outfield players, which paid off as they quickly drew level through Rene Kriwak.

Just two minutes later, though, Celtic grabbed their lead back with Kyogo sliding the ball underneath the keeper, Turnbull repaying the earlier favour with a great assist.

Again, Rapid replied with Emanuel Aiwu heading home for 3-3.

Hear ts picked up another pre- season win with a 5- 0 demolition of Bonnyrigg Rose at Tynecastle Park.

Rose, last season’s pyramid play-off winners, frustrated Robbie N e i l s o n ’s side until just before half-time.

How e v e r, when summer signing Jorge Grant coolly converted when teed up by a back heel from Peter Haring the home side were on their way.

Haring then himself made it 2-0 with a confident conversion from the penalty spot shortly after the hour.

Hearts began to really enjoy themselves after that with Alan Forrest, another new arrival, one of the creators in a great third.

He sent Michael Smith free down the wing with the full back crossing for Boyce to finish.

Aaron Mceneff added a fine individual score, curling home from 25 yards.

Euan Henderson, who had earlier gone close, completed the scoring.

St Johnstone brought the curtain down on their pre- season schedule with an entertaining 3- 2 win at home to Cove Rangers.

Melker Hallberg netted the opener with a free kick.

Last season’s League One champions hit back with a Gerry Mcdonagh penalty.

Callum Davidson brought on Theo Bair at half- time, and he scored to make it 2-1.

Again, Cove responded positively with Leighton Mcintosh replying to level it.

The Saints manager again saw one of his substitutions pay off when Graham Carey, grabbed the winner.
