Highlanders’ reunion is set to be a little bit tasty

Ryan Christie has marked October 18 in his diary as the night he gets the chance to boot lumps out of former Celtic team- mate, Stuart Armstrong when Bournemouth travel to Southampton on Premier League duty.

The Scotland stars, who both hail from Inverness, are the best of friends, but Christie insists there will be no love lost when points are at stake.

“I’m sure I’ll be winding him up a lot before that game – we’re two Highlanders!” he claimed. “We see each other every other week, so we’re good pals. But we will see . . .

“It will be a fight of who can put each other up in the air the most when we play each other!

“I’ve got him, big Kris Ajer at Brentford and John Mcginn at Aston Villa. So it should be a good season.”

Christie helped Bournemouth bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt, and now he can’t wait to experience life in the fast lane after hearing all about it from his mates.

“That was one of the aspects of it that pulled me towards Bournemouth,” he admitted.

“I spoke to all the Scotland boys when I was away with them, and they would rave about it.”

Free agent, Aaron Mooy, has “interest from all around the world” according to his agent.

Celtic have been linked with the Australian midfield star, after the former St Mirren, Manchester City, Huddersfield Town and Brighton star negotiated his release from Chinese side, Shanghai Port.

The 31- year- old was a big player for Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou when he was Socceroos manager.

Mooy will go to the World Cup in Qatar – as long as he signs for a club that gives him playing time after his spell in China was heavily disrupted due to Covid restrictions.

His agent, Josh Barnett, said: “There’s no rush to make a decision.”

Mooy is currently based in Glasgow with his Scottish wife and family, and last played in Scottish football 10 years ago for St Mirren.
