Gary Bowyer insists he will not be getting carried away despite making a dream start in his first competitive game in charge of Dundee.

The new Dens boss saw his side sweep Hamilton Accies aside in the Premier Sports Cup thanks to goals from Niall Mcginn, Alex Jakubiak and Lyall Cameron with Hamilton reduced to 10 men late on after Brian Easton was given his marching orders.

Bowyer said: “In front of our home fans for the first time here at Dens to get a clean sheet and score three good goals there is lots to build on.

“We are not going to get carried away but it was positive.”

Bowyer is hoping to add to his squad at the start of this week and he admitted Rangers midfielder Ben Williamson was a player he is interested in.

He added: “We’ve been linked with him and I know about him. He will certainly go on to the list.”

Accies were booed off by their small group of travelling supporters and boss John Rankin pleaded with the supporters to stick by his young team.

Rankin said: “I fully get that they are disappointed. But we need the fans behind us and I am sure they will in the coming weeks.”

Dundee, who were watched from the main stand by their former striker Leigh Griffiths, broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.

The home side’s Josh Mulligan made a great run through the midfield and although he was eventually wiped out, he still managed to find Mcginn on the left and the Northern Irish international drilled a low shot into the far corner.

The home side doubled their advantage just four minutes after the break.

Half-time sub Paul Mcgowan was tripped in the Accies box by Shaun Watt with referee Gavin Duncan pointing to the spot and another replacement Jakubiak stepped up to send an emphatic penalty into the back of the net.

Accies’ miserable day became worse when skipper Easton was shown a straight red for a challenge on Mulligan as he raced towards goal.

Dundee then added a third in stoppage time through another sub Lyall Cameron with his first competitive goal for the club.
