BANKS 0’ DEE sprung a major surprise when they ousted BRORA RANGERS from the Merchants Highland League Cup 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

The Cattachs came out of the traps flying and goals from Gregor Macdonald and Ally Macdonald put them 2-0 up, but Mark Gilmour pulled one back from a penalty. Brora’s Mark Nicolson was then sent off and Lachie Macleod squared the game before the break. Jordan Macrae netted and seemed to have sent the 10 men through, but Macleod nabbed his second late on to set up a dramatic penalty shoot-out, which the former Junior side won 4-3.

FORRES MECHANICS eased their way into the second round with a solid display at KEITH, winning 2-0 with goals by Lewis Coull (og) and Ben Barron (pen).

Botti Biabi hit a hat-trick (one a penalty) as hosts BRECHIN CITY beat ROTHES 4-2. Grady Mcgrath also converted a penalty for the winners, with Rothes having twice led through Aidan Wilson and Greg Morrison.

BUCKIE THISTLE won 3-1 at DEVERONVALE. Jack Murray headed The Jags in front, but Dane Ballard levelled with a header. Andy Macaskill converted a penalty on 82 minutes before Max Barry sealed the tie late on.

HUNTLY were 2-0 up at home to FORMARTINE UNITED through two goals in a minute from Robbie Foster and Adam Morris. The visitors hit back to win through Johnathan Crawford (2) and Aiden Combe.

TURRIFF UNITED’S Ewan Clark rolled in a fourth-minute opener on the way to a 4-0 home win over CLACHNACUDDIN. Clark finished the game with all four goals credited to him after he converted three more, including two penalties. Clach’s Gary Warren was sent off for a last-man challenge at one of the penalty incidents.

NAIRN COUNTY won 3-0 at LOSSIEMOUTH, with two goals inside the first 10 minutes from Ciaran Young. Liam Shewan got No. 3 late on.

Nathan Meres and Garry Wood (pen) struck for INVERURIE LOCOS as they won 2-1 at FRASERBURGH (Sean Butcher).
