George W Bush, the 43rd US President, served two terms in office from 2001-09 after his father, George Bush, the 41st incumbent, served a single term from 1989-93.
A son following his father into the White House happened once before, when sixth President, John Quincy Adams took office in 1825, 24 years after his father, John Adams.
After a dram or two with my brother, he said he heard astronauts had sneaked a bottle of whisky into space. Surely he’d had one too many? – E
I think you are correct, though whisky has been sent into space.
In 2011, Islay’s Ardbeg Distillery sent a small vial of the spirit up to the International Space Station, more than 250 miles above the earth. It was an experiment to see how weightlessness would affect the dram’s taste.
When it was returned to earth, Ardbeg’s director of distilling, said: “It was noticeably different. Much more of Ardbeg’s smoky, phenolic character shone through – to reveal a different set of smoky flavours I haven’t encountered here on earth.”
On holiday in Italy I heard a football team called Monopoly being discussed on the radio. Is the name because of a sponsorship deal? – S
The club is actually called Societa Sportiva Monopoli 1966.
Based in the town of Monopoli, near Bari in the Apulia region, the club play in Serie C, Italy’s third tier.
