On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, just outside Alexandria, this eatery offers a meal with a view – and a stunning one at that!

We’re blown away by the boardwalk-style entrance, with little wooden boats at the side – and ducks of course! Inside, it’s stunning. With lots of sea green and cream, and wood, it’s contemporary cool... and echoes the gorgeous vista over the water through the huge windows at the back of the restaurant.

We haven’t booked, but a lovely, friendly waiter manages to find us a table for lunch, despite it being busy. Service is with a smile and he takes time to talk us through the menu. Our drinks orders are taken quickly and food arrives promptly, which is great as we’re famished!

Whatever you’re in the mood for, Duck Bay will probably have it. The menu is extensive and has everything from steaks to salads and sandwiches to mussels and macaroni. In fact, we find it a task to choose. I plump for the sizzling fajitas and my fellow diners try a club sandwich, macaroni and bangers and mash.

Every single dish is devoured in silence – a sure sign it was enjoyed. The fajitas were hot and the fillings plentiful. The sandwich was huge and chips on the side nice and crispy. The kids were almost licking their plates.

A lovely, relaxed weekend lunch, we feel super-chilled, and super-full. We could have easily sat for longer and not felt rushed, despite it being packed to the rafters.

At just short of £60 for two adults and two children, it was pretty reasonable – and great value for money.
