Lineker circus is exactly how not to do it

- Mrs S White, by email

I don’t see how the BBC top brass could have made more of a mess of things with Gary Lineker. In terms of turning a drama into a crisis, it was textbook.

Now they have launched a review of how presenters can use social media, which is obviously designed to kick it into the long grass because either everyone can say everything they want or no one can say anything. One person’s offensive political opinion is another person’s simple fact, so who is going to decide?

It looks like a director general who was once a Tory candidate and a chairman who arranged a loan for Boris Johnson should expect more accusations that they are in the pocket of the government, if they survive in their posts.

They would have been better just ignoring Lineker’s tweet altogether instead of turning it into a three-ring circus.

Breath of fresh air

I tend to agree with the new president of the Ramblers Scotland, Zahrah Mahmood (Sunday Post last week) that our hills are too white.

It would be nice to see them more diverse although by the time I peck my way up to the top, I’m usually so out of breath that I could be up on the top with Martians and I wouldn’t notice. She sounds like a breath of fresh air anyway and I wish her every success.

Snow kidding

We didn’t get it so bad but I know some parts of Scotland were hit with really heavy snow. If I had been them and watching the news bulletins from England I would have put my foot through the telly.

Honestly, they had a bit of a flurry and the reporters were dressed like it was the frozen tundra.

It reminded of when I lived in London. I couldn’t believe it when they used to rush into the office talking about having snowball fights on the way in and there would be like an inch of slush on the ground.

More questions

I’ve watched a few of the TV debates for the next SNP leader and was glad there was a live audience for the last one. It was good to see them facing ordinary people having to worry about the NHS and schools and all the rest. At least the questions were better but the answers were the usual. “We’ve done great and we’ll do better.” Sure.

Pictures imperfect

Why have you moved the photos spread from the centre pages? There are usually some stunning pictures and to have one split on different pages is so annoying. Pauline Keld, by email

We endeavour to keep Snapshot on the centre pages to showcase the photographs but on very rare occasions we need to move it back for production reasons. Apologies.

Superstar Gogglers

I see Gogglebox is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary. Always the best thing on TV. I’d love a night out with them all.
