Rovers rout but sloppy Sons still top the table

-

Currie fired a shot just past the upright and Faye skied a 30-yard shot high over the bar before Kerr Young had a great chance for Rose, but his shot brought a diving save from Fleming.

The half ended with Callum Connolly and Kieran Mitchell coming close with shots and the Fifers still looking for a first real chance.

It came on 49 minutes when Scott Shepherd headed inches past and Aaron Steel prodded the ball past the upright five minutes later.

But, in the 57th minute, Alan Trouten made no mistake for the visitors when he shot them into the lead from 12 yards.

Rose pressed and, in the 75th minute, they finally found the net when Callum Connolly got the vital goal for Rose when he headed home a cross from Lee Currie.

A minute later, at the other end, Alan Trouton almost got a second for the visitors, but his long-range raking shot went narrowly over the bar.

Five minutes from time, Currie almost got his name on the scoresheet, but his drive from just outside the box was blocked by a defender and, deep into stoppage-time, the Fifers’ Aidam Denholm saw his shot from 10 yards stopped by the Rose keeper.

STRANRAER 1 STIRLING ALBION 1

Blair Currie saved a late Josh Walker penalty to deny Stranraer the chance of three much-needed points at the bottom.

The visitors came close through Kieran Moore’s deflected shot from the edge of the box, with goalkeeper Matty Connelly blocking well with his legs.

The breakthrough came on 41 minutes as the home defence appealed for a handball against Jack Leitch. The whistle never came and the midfielder wasted no time in blasting home from 25 yards.

Stirling were almost handed the opportunity to double their advantage through some slack home defending. Craig Ross was robbed of the ball and Danny Denholm powered into the box, but drove his shot straight at Connelly.

The visitors also had the ball in the net for a second time when an attempted clearance fell kindly to Dale Carrick, but the offside flag was quickly raised.

However, Stranraer pulled themselves level with just under 20 minutes left as Scott Robertson close-range diving header forced its way under Currie.

Walker could have been the match winner, but Currie saved his spot-kick to ensure the spoils were shared
